Barry Green
Barry Green, a native Californian, served as Principal Bassist of the Cincinnati Symphony for 28 years. As former Executive Director of the International Society of Bassists, and Formerly professor of bass at The Ohio State University, the University of California Santa Cruz and the University of Cincinnati CCM. Green has also written 3 bass method books and many solo recordings. As a bass soloist, Green has created three multimedia productions called Anna’s Way, Anna’s Gift, and Anna’s Promise composed by Andres Martin and based on inspirational stories for solo bass with combos, bands or orchestra. Green’s latest multimedia concert program is a documentary style concert of Russian music called: Music from Ukraine and a new multi-media narrated program based on the Four Elements: Fire, Water, Air and Earth.
Green is author of three books dealing with the philosophy of music, the mind, body and spirit: The Inner Game of Music (Doubleday, 1986), The Mastery of Music, Ten Pathways to True Artistry (Broadway/Doubleday 2003) and Bringing Music to Life! (GIA, 2009). Barry’s most recent projects include an eight part video series with co-host Jason Heath called Buckeye Bass Bashes, and a popular video string method called Stringersize, and the formation of the Bass Club Cincinnati that includes programs with local and Internationally known guest artists for the Cincinnati community, For information on Green’s personal appearances, publications and mini-workshops please see his website, www.innergameofmusic.com

The Four Elements is a unique and powerful program for bass, piano, and narrator created by world renowned double bass virtuoso Barry Green. The stunning visuals, music and script remind the audiences of both the joys the four elements fire, air, water and earth, bring to our lives while at the same time humbly alert us to their fragility and destructive power.
Barry Green will be joined for this performance by Australian Double Bass player Elsen Price and Pianist Alison Cameron.

Elsen Price
Elsen Price is an Australian double bassist who performs as a soloist and chamber musician, plus performs classical, jazz, pop, folk and experimental music.
Elsen has built a career as an independent performer, producer, composer, ensemble director, recording artist and collaborator.
As a soloist and chamber musician, Elsen has toured Australia, New Zealand, Japan, India, Taiwan, Czech Republic and the UK, with highlights including BassEurope, Wells Cathedral UK, Palmerston Place Edinburgh, St Xaviers College Mumbai, Yilan International Art Festival, Auckland University, and in Australia: Sydney Opera House, Melbourne Recital Centre, MONA, Her Majesty’s Theatre Adelaide and many others.
Elsen has premiered numerous works for solo and ensemble by Australian and International composers including Caitlin Yeo, David Heyes, Teppo Hauto-Aho, P Kellach Waddle, Keyna Wilkins, Elena Kats-Chernin and many others. As a composer/performer, Elsen won the ‘Best Soundtrack’ Award at the 2016 International Independent Film Awards, released critically-acclaimed solo album ‘Descent of the Free’ (ABC/Universal) 2019, plus many albums as a soloist and ensemble director.
In jazz, Elsen has performed/recorded alongside various artists including Andrea Keller, Dave Panichi (Buddy Rich Band), Matt Mcmahon, Paul Cutlan and many others.
In pop music, Elsen has performed/toured with International artists including Grammy award winner Josh Groban, Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Mike Patton (Faith No More), plus Australian artists including Pinky Beecroft and many others.
In folk/world music, Elsen has performed/toured with International artists Chris Stout and Catriona Mckay (UK), Sharam Nazeri (Iran), Alireza Ghourbani (Iran), Adnan Karim (Iraq) and many others.
As a recording artist, Elsen has numerous ongoing recording credits for International and Australian film, tv, video games, anime and soundtrack production.
As an educator, Elsen has directed workshops at Wells Cathedral, Scottish Bass Trust, BassEurope, regional Taiwan, Auckland University, and throughout Australia. Elsen has a number of local Sydney students, online international students, plus a part-time contracted conductor.

A day of inspiration, workshops and masterclasses for double bass players of all levels and ages.
We welcome the legendary Barry Green to Sydney, internationally renowned soloist, recitalist, teacher and performance coach. Well known as the author of the revolutionary book “The Inner Game of Music” Barry Green is touring Australia for AUSTA and will be in Sydney from July 6 to 10.
For this Double Bass day Barry Green (USA), Kees Boersma (AUS) and Alex Henery (AUS) lead the learning with Technique workshops, Masterclasses and a Bass ensemble.
Matthew Tucker from Bresque Basses will also be onsite for minor instrument adjustments, maintenance advice and more.

YouTube clips illuminate how famous jazz, hip-hop, Latin, classical and chamber music artists including Joshua Bell, Tito Puente, Oscar Petersen, Kronos String Quartet and maestro Leonard Bernstein use these master movement and breath techniques. This session includes ways to work with the distracting inner voice plus Inner Game concentration techniques. It includes his coaching approaches to transform a performer’s concentration from a place of doubt to a place of relaxed concentration for musicians of all walks and styles of playing. This seminar is a unique opportunity to see a master at work with the real engagement that lifts our music from the ordinary into the extraordinary.
The Seminar will conclude with a special performance of original music by Barry Green for his AUSTA tour to Tasmania.

Barry Green brings his bass masterclass to UWA in this special event on all aspects of bass performance and education to offer the greatest support, approaches and insights into our playing, practice and attitudes. It is open to bass players of all walks – classical, jazz, folk, bluegrass, pop, world music and beyond – and presents a friendly and extremely positive environment for exploring and learning in. Barry’s is known as a master teacher, orchestra principal bassist of the Cincinnati Symphony, California Symphony, Sun Valley Summer Symphony and Internationally known soloist, guest clinician, author of 3 technique books for bass and former Executive Director of the International Society of Bassists.

Join Barry Green in an open session working with his pathbreaking approach to music, creativity and teaching in an informal presentation of his ideas.
The afternoon will also showcase Barry performing solo and teaching in a masterclass setting including a meet and greet Q & A with Barry.
Please bring your instruments if possible.

The afternoon will included a massed Double Bass Orchestra, followed by an Advanced Masterclass/Workshop. There will also be opportunity for a Q & A with Barry. Please bring your instruments!
